Memex Video

After reading Bush's original article, revised article, and reactions to his article, I performed a google search on the word "Memex". I read through a number of articles and blog posts, but found the most useful and helpful source to be a youtube video displaying the mechanics and details of the Memex itself. The video put Bush's ideas into a physical image, and explained how each part of the Memex connected to one another. I found this video to be visually helpful, and allowed me to understand Bush's true blueprint of the Memex. The video was made as a 50th anniversary commemoration of Bush's original article being published.

As I watched the video created by Dynamic Diagrams, I began to realize that the Memex had similar applications and qualities of modern-day computers. The Memex allows users to search for articles on nearly any information topic, scroll through articles, record personal notes, and share the information and notes with other Memex users. The parallels between the Memex and a modern-day computer are evident.

Vannevar Bush is a true genius for coming up with an early model of what a computer attempts to accomplish. The topics he covers in his original article match what pioneers such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates wanted to accomplish in being inventive and making life more convenient for people. Overall, the youtube video animating the Memex model was intriguing and helpful in my understanding of the invention.
