Hello! I'm Julie

Hi, I'm Julie Ganser. I never quite know what to tell people when they ask what year I am... I came in with a bunch of credits from AP courses so now I can graduate in three years. This year is my third and final year here at UW, so I guess that makes me both a junior and a senior. It is a miracle that I am able to graduate early given that I switched majors four times in my short time here. I came in as an Electrical Engineering student then switched to Computer Engineering. After that were Information Systems and Actuarial Science. Eventually, I settled on Computer Science.

Outside of class I am very involved in a couple organizations here on campus. This year I am treasurer of my sorority, Sigma Alpha Omega. My sorority sisters are some of my best friends and I will miss them dearly after I graduate.
I also enjoy playing volleyball, baking, and reading. One of my favorite authors is C.S. Lewis and I am currently reading two of his books, Surprised by Joy and The Screwtape Letters.

This summer I interned at Epic as a Software Developer. In case you don't know Epic is a company that make electronic health records (EHRs) and they are located just outside of Madison in Verona, WI. Epic's campus is the coolest office that I have ever seen. If you have never been there it is definitely worth the trip. Each of the office buildings has a different theme from New York to a Medieval castle filled with dragons.

As far as writing goes, I haven't taken any writing intensive classes in college. In the past two years I have had to write one paper and half a dozen essays. In this class I hope to bring my writing skills to the collegiate level while learning about an interesting topic.

I am looking forward to a great semester! See you all in discussion.

  1. Hi Julie, it's cool having a fellow CS student in class! I have heard a lot of great things about Epic and it sounds like a lot of UW CS graduates head there out of school. I didn't realize they had such a cool campus! I was expecting a pretty bland one since they aren't a really well-known company. I'm looking forward to getting to know you this semester!
